Habimana Mbarimo – Former combatant in FDLR-Foca has surfaced in Rwanda. He was in Burundi where he had been sent to train Imbonerakure militia

Rwanda on Thursday received five men including a one Habimana Mbarimo – a commando of the Rwandan FDLR militia group based in DR Congo.

The FDLR – Front Démocratique pour la Libération du Rwanda , had sent Habimana on a technical mission to train Imbonerakure militia in neighbouring Burundi.

He told KT Press that a horrible  life in the jungle triggered his decision to surrender.  He repatriated to Rwanda via Goma – Rubavu border in Western Province yesterday.

Habimana has been a member of the FDLR special forces. The group was in 2001 blacklisted as a terror group.

In March 2016, Habimana and other 50 FDLR fighters were sent to train  Imbonerakure – that have been carrying killings of innocent civilians in Burundi. The Imbonerakure is the youth wing of the Burundi ruling party CNDD of President Pierre Nkurunziza.

However, along the way the group split and announced they had also rebelled against FDLR FOCA bosses . The group en-route to Burundi was commanded by a one Captain Peter. He said he was not earning anything from the mission.
