Police has arrested a 35-year-old man in Ngoma district, Eastern Province who threatened to kill Genocide survivors with a machete.

According to Police Spokesperson, Commissioner of Police Theos Badege, Francois Nsengiyumva was arrested after a tip-off from local leaders and citizens.

On Friday April 6th, a day before the 24th commemoration of the Genocide against Tutsi Nsengiyumva said it is a “Special celebration day for Tutsi.”

However, according to Badege, this was not all.

“He went on and bought a machete and threatened to hack people. Local leaders tipped Police and arrested him. He is detained at Kibungo Police Station,” Badege told KT Press on Sunday.

The suspect was arrested in Kiyanja Village, Rugese cell in Rurenge sector.

Meanwhile, apart from the Friday case in Ngoma district, Badege told KT Press that Police has not registered any other Genocide ideology-related cases.

“Commemoration activities went on well across the country,” he said.

Badege added that Police recorded few cases of trauma during the first day of commemoration.
