Junior Wasps striker Nshuti Innocent seen in the first leg, could not help his side overcome DR Congo as Rwanda went down fighting 5-0 to DR Congo on Tuesday in Kinshasa

Rwanda’s Under-23 National team, Junior Wasps suffered a disappointing 0-5 defeat to DR Congo in the return leg of the first round qualifier of the 2019 Africa U23 Cup of Nations campaign played on Tuesday evening at Stade de Martyrs in Kinshasa.

Rwanda went into the second leg following a goalless draw which was played last week at Stade Umuganda in Rubavu District.

The Jimmy Mulisa led side was expecting to snatch an away goal but their plans could not be achieved as poor defending cost the team dearly in the first half when they conceded two goals courtesy of Ginola Mbuangi and Jackson Muleka.

In the second half, DR Congo increased the goal tally to three with Muleka bagging a brace to ensure a clear and clean qualification for DR Congo into the second round with a 5-0 aggregate victory thus ending hopes for Rwanda.

DR Congo will now face Morocco in the penultimate round in March 2019.

The tournament, slated for November 8-22, 2019 in Egypt, will determine three teams that will represent Africa at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Japan. This will be the 3rd edition of Africa U-23 Cup of Nations.
