CAF CC: Mukura VS Target Victory Away in Sudan

Rwanda’s Peace Cup holders Mukura VS heads to Sudan tonight ahead of their Total Confederations Cup first round, first leg clash against Al Hilal El Obeid due on Saturday.

The first leg match will be played on Saturday, December 15 at El Obeid/El Obeid Stadium with kick-off set from 18H30. The team departs Kigali on Wednesday tonight (01h45) aboard Ethiopian Airways to Addis Ababa where they will reconnect to Khartoum at 8am.

Following their 3-1 victory against Espoir Fc in the Azam Rwanda Premier League, match day eight on Tuesday; Mukura VS leads the Azam Rwanda Premier League standings with 19 points, maintaining an 8-match unbeaten record so far.

Head coach Christian Francis Haringingo has named a strong 18-man squad to negotiate a crucial away match.

The Huye-based team secured a slot to the round of 32 after beating South Africa’s Free State Stars 1-0 in the return-leg clash of the preliminary round at Huye Stadium last week. The two sides had played out a goalless draw in the first-leg in Johannesburg.

Burundian born coach Haringingo revealed that his club’s target is to secure a first leg away win over Al Hilal El Obeid.

“We expect a tough game but we must do the needful to secure an away victory so that we have a home advantage to knockout them out in Huye,”

 “I have a good team, players have been in a competitive mood, we intend to play an attacking football and I am optimistic of a positive result,” added Haringingo.

The first leg match will be handled by South Sudanese referee Ring Nyier Akech Malong. He will be assisted by Gasim Madir Dehiya as the first assistant referee, (Sudan) (Rwanda), George Primato Oliba will be the second assistant referee while

Alier Michael James is the reserve referee.

Muhsin Ali Rajab from Zanzibar has been appointed as the match commissioner of the first leg tie.

The return leg which is slated to be held between December 21-23 will be handled by match officials from E-Swatini, formely known as Swaziland.

Mukura VS is back in the competition after an 18-year hiatus – the first time since 2000 – when they got eliminated from the first round by Ethiopia’s Awassa City FC 2-1 on aggregate score.
