Kagame Cup 2019: TP Mazembe Confirms Participation

DR Congo giants TP Mazembe will take part in the 2019 CECAFA Kagame Cup.

DR Congo giant’s TP Mazembe have confirmed their participation at the 2019 CECAFA Kagame Cup Tournament which is slated for Kigali-Rwanda from July 6-21.

The club confirmed the development in a statement posted on their website where the club president Moise Katumbi expressed delight to the invitation which was sent to them by CECAFA inviting as one of the guest teams to grace and spice up the tournament.

“The TP Mazembe is invited to the CECAFA KAGAME CUP to be held from July 6 to 21 in Rwanda. The Chairman Moise KATUMBI’s club is happy and proud to be invited for the third time to this tournament which brings together teams from East Africa.

“The TP Mazembe has agreed in principle to participating in this tournament which will be dedicated to the commemoration of the 25ththe anniversary of the Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda,” a statement on the club’s website noted.

TP Mazembe will be making their third participation at the Cecafa Kagame Cup Tournament.

Zesco United of Zambia, the Democratic Republic of Congo duo AS Vita and Motema Pembe are among other invited clubs which have already confirmed participation.

With SC Simba and Yanga pulling out due to various reasons, Tanzania will be represented by reigning champions Azam FC and Kinondoni Municipal Council Football Club (KMC).

Hosts Rwanda will be represented by Rayon Sports and APR FC, Bandari is expected to represent Kenya while KCCA will represent Uganda.

A final list including teams from Somalia, Eritrea, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Sudan and South Sudan is expected to be released in the course of the week.

The winner of the annual tournament stands to pocket $30,000 (Rwf. 27 million) in prize money while runners up will receive $20,000 (Rwf. 18 million) and $10,000 (Rwf. 9 million) respectively.
