US Dollar, KES Come Around At Beginning of The Week

The US Dollar and Kenyan Shillings have made a significant increase in their exchange rate and bargain power after weeks of staggering performance against the Rwandan franc.

As of last week Friday – January 26th, the US dollar bought at Rwf838.91 and sold at Rwf855.69 but on Monday, the Central Bank Rates, the dollar increased by one dollar and 10cents in buying and selling respectively.

The Kenya shilling also had a surprising increase on its bargaining power compared to the last three weeks, also coming around this January 29 with a one shilling increase against the franc.

Both currencies barely made any significant changes on the local exchange rate as they dwindled around Rwf838 and Rwf8.1 respectively.

On the other hand the Uganda shilling didn’t make any slight changes against the franc, a trend which only saw some increment last year November.

In the meantime, the Rwanda stock exchange market today Monday 29th January, 2018, saw a fall in Bank of Kigali (BK) shares even after showing quality performance last week closing with a Rwf5 increase on its shares.

The local bourse also remained constant to close at 133.89 and 133.26 respectively.

Today’s trading session recorded a total turnover of Rwf 548,500 from 8,500 shares traded in 4 deals.

Crystal telecom (CTL) counter closed at Rwf 65 (Rwf 65 previous). The trading session recorded a total turnover of Rwf 520,000 from 8,200 shares traded in 3deals.

I&M Bank Rwanda (IMR) counter closed at Rwf 95 (Rwf 95 previous). The trading session recorded a total turnover of Rwf 28,500 from 300 shares traded in 1 deal.

On the equities, counters closed as follows: Bralirwa (BLR): Rwf 149; Equity Group (EQTY): Rwf 350, BK: Rwf 295; Nation Media Group (NMG): Rwf 1200; Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB): Rwf 340 and Uchumi Supermarket (USL): Rwf 104.

At the end of the formal trading hours, on BK counter there were outstanding offers of 48,900 shares between Rwf 295-300 and an outstanding bid of 1,000 shares at Rwf 286.

On BLR counter there were outstanding offers of 174,900 shares between Rwf 145-150 and no bids.

On CTL counter, there were outstanding offers of 586,000 shares between Rwf 65-70 and no bids .On IMR counter, there were outstanding offers of 93,800 shares between Rwf 96-100 and no bids.

On the bond market, there was an outstanding bid of Rwf 200,000,000 worth of bonds between Rwf 104.5-104.6 and no offers.
