Architizer A+Awards, the largest awards program focused on promoting and celebrating the year’s best architecture and products in the world says it was caught up by amazing designs of Butaro Hospital wards and staff quarters.
In its project dubbed ‘Around the World in 80 Buildings’, Architizer’s award was dedicated to outstanding Architecture across Africa where 9 best designs will be selected.
Winners- designers of building plans will be recognized as the year’s most influential visionaries, and their work will be presented in front of a global audience of more than 400 million in United Sates of America.
Selection of the best architects started in September this year and final announcement of the winners is scheduled to take place in May 2017.
Butaro Hospital building which has several services and specializes in cancer treatment, was designed by MASS Design Group- an American based Architecture Company. Its uniqueness resides into the locally made construction materials and the coolness
“The housing explores new craft skills and construction techniques through compressed stabilized earth blocks (CSEB) that were fabricated entirely by local masons and artisans,” read the comments on Burera staff quarters.
As far as the hospital wards are concerned, the awarding jury identified a unique environment for patients.
“It is made with careful consideration of natural ventilation and user circulation. It louvered windows, large-radius fans, no interior corridors and it has a clear way-finding system.”
Other Hospital buildings selected along Butaro hospital include; Tanzania’s Mizengo Pinda Asali & Nyuki Sanctuary, Armadillo Creche from South Africa, Thread Artist Residency from Senegal, Primary School Tanouan Ibi from Mali; Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge from Botswana and OVD 919 from South Africa.
