Gisagara lifts CAVB-Zone V Men’s Championship

Gisagara-Volleyball-club-celebrating-the-CAVB-Zone-V-mens-title-alongside-Minister-of-health-Diane-Gashumba-and-State-Minister-of-Education-Isaac-Munyakazi-on-Saturday-night-at-Amahoro-Indoor-stadium

Rwandan side Gisagara Volleyball club won the inaugural edition of the CAVB-Zone V Club Championship which climaxed on Saturday night at Amahoro indoor stadium in Remera, Kigali City.

Gisagara Volleyball Club trounced local rivals Rwanda Energy Group (REG) Volleyball Club 3-1 in the final which was massively attended by local fans and high profile delegates who included Minister of Sports Esperance Nyirasafari, Health Minister Dr. Dianne Gashumba, State Minister of Education Isaac Munyakazi and African Volleyball Confederation President Dr. Amr Elwini among others.

Gisagara who had overcame Uganda’s Sports S in the semi-final defeated REG VC following a poor start which saw them lose the opening set 20-25 but returned back stronger to win the remaining sets 25-20, 25-20 and 25-19 respectively.

Gisagara VC were given bronze medals and USD $1200 as cash prize while REG VCtook silver medals and USD $ 800 worth of cash prize.

UTB VC won bronze medal after defeating Uganda’s Sport S 3-1 in the third-place ranking. They lost the first set 20-25 then won the remaining sets 25-11, 25-15, 25-23 respectively. They earned medals and USD $ 500 worth of cash prize.

In the individual categories, Nelson Murangwa (Gisagara VC) was the most valuable player while his team mate Ben Nakavova was named as the best setter of the tournament; REG VC had three individual winners in Mike Chemo as the best server, Simon Rwigema as the best receiver while Mukunzi Christophe was the best attacker.

Uganda’s Sport-S player Dickens Otim was named the best blocker while youngster Jules Niyigena was picked as the best Libero of the tournament.
