Fourth Batch of Refugees Evacuated from Libya Arrives in Rwanda

The refugees arrived via Rwandair this evening

The fourth group of 79 refugees and asylum seekers evacuated from Libya have safely arrived in Rwanda, the Ministry of Emergency Management has said.

“They will be accommodated in Gashora transit Center located in Bugesera District where other refugees and asylum seekers evacuated from Libya live,” a communique from the Ministry further said.

There are in Gashora, 180 refugees and asylum seekers out of 306 who had arrived in Rwanda in three phases from Libya where they were rescued from, following human rights’ violation.

Another 121 refugees and asylum seekers have been relocated to Canada and Sweden.

Gashora settlement has a capacity to host 500 refugees and asylum seekers. Rwanda offered to take up to 30,000 refugees and asylum seekers.
