African Club Champs: RRA Storm Quarter Final Round

Rwanda Revenue Authority beat Nkumba University of Uganda to reach the quarter final round of the Women’s African Club Championship in Egypt

Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) powered into the quarter finals of the 2018 women’s African club championship following the completion of the preliminary round of the competition on Saturday in Cairo, Egypt.

Rwanda Revenue Authority leapfrogged Nkumba University from Uganda to qualify to the quarterfinals rounds with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-19) crushing to finish second behind host Ahly.

This was a second victory for the Rwandan ladies following their opening victory against Nyong of Cameroon which they defeated 3-1 (25-18, 15-25, 25-21 and 25-14).

They lost their second group game against Egyptian side Al Ahly  0-3 (13-25, 10-25, 16-25).

Host Ahly booked the ticket to the quarterfinals with a resounding 3-0 (25-8, 25-15, 25-10) triumph against Nyong of Cameroun. Ahly finished top of pool A without a defeat.

Rwanda Revenue Authority completed the roaster for the quarter final round alongside defending champions Carthage, Prisons, Pipeline, Bafia, Ahly, Shams and Customs.

In Pool B, defending champions Carthage, who had booked their qualification earlier, crushed Bafia of Cameroun 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-15) to remain unbeaten.

In the lead up to the last eight showdowns Nigeria’s customs beat Douanes to get their ticket to the last eight. The Nigerian got the ticket in a dramatic 3-1 (25-10, 21-25, 25-15, 25-17) win in Pool D to join Prisons.

Prisons who already confirmed their progress on Friday, proved that they a force to be reckon with after winning the pool with another 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-14) against INJS of Cameroun.

Another match that was decided before Saturday gave a leading voice to Pipeline of Kenya to finished topped of pool C as they passed through FAP of Cameroun 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-16) to top pool C.

Egypt’s El Shams ultimately confirmed their qualifications to the quarterfinals with a win in their final pool match. They beat Congo’s DGSP in an emphatic 3-0 (25-9, 25-9, 25-17) crushing to finish second in pool C behind Pipeline.

Chlef of Algeria beat Botswana’s BDF 6 3-1 (21-25, 29-27, 25-21, 25-14). Both side could not manage to get a quarterfinal ticket but it was a very valuable point for Chlef as they finished on 3rd in pool B.
