Rayon Drawn with Yanga, Gor, Alger in Confed Cup

Rayon Sports has been drawn against East African duo in the CAF Confederation Cup Group Phase.

Rwandan league giants Rayon Sports Fc were on Saturday drawn in Group D of the CAF Confederation Cup where they will face Kenya’s Gor Mahia Fc, Tanzania’s Young Africans and and USM Alger (Algeria).

To reach the Group stage for the first time since the introduction of the new CAF era, Rayon Sports Fc eliminated Mozambican side CD Costa do Sol 3-2 on aggregate.

Rayon Sports Fc will will kick-off the first leg against Gor Mahia of Kenya on May 6, a team that has two international strikers Kagere Meddie and Tuyisenge Jacques. Kagere will be facing his former employers Rayon Sports Fc whom he played during the 2013-14 season.

The draw ceremony was conducted on Saturday at the CAF Headquarters in Cairo, Egypt and was conducted by CAF General Secretary Amr Fahmy and assisted by CAF Deputy General Secretary, Anthony Baffoe, in attendance of CAF President Ahmad.

Former African champions, ASEC Mimosas (Cote d’Ivoire), Raja Club Athletic (Morocco) and AS Vita (DR Congo) were drawn in Group A, completed by Ghana champions, Aduana Stars.

Group B has RS Berskane (Morocco), Al Masry (Egypt), UD Songo (Mozambique) and El Hilal (Sudan) with two-time African champions, Enyimba (Nigeria), debutants Williamsville (Cote d’Ivoire), CARA (Congo) and Djoliba (Mali) housed in Group C.

In Group D, Rayon Sports Fc will open their group campaign against Kenya’s Gor Mahia on May 6 in Kigali before traveling to Tanzania for the second group game against Tanzanian giants Young Africans on May 16, 2018.

Group D: Rayon Sports (Rwanda), Yanga SC (Tanzania), Gor Mahia (Kenya), U.S.M Alger ( Algeria).

Rayon need to work harder than before to qualify for 1/4 and this is possible now. All teams in the group are good and at the same level but believing, team spirit and determination are key determinants to next stage.
