The Ben, Knowless Nominated for AFRIMMA Awards

Rwanda’s vocalist The Ben real name Benjamin Mugisha, songbird Butera Knowless and choreographer Sherry Silver are among the nominees of African Music Magazine awards (AFRIMMA) 2019.

The awards ceremony is slated to take place on 2nd November this year in Dallas, Texas at The Bomb Factory, a high profile venue that has hosted some of the finest upscale events in Dallas.

The Ben is nominated in Best Male East Africa category with Africa’s finest like Diamond Platnumz (Tanzania), Harmonize, Khaligraph (Kenya), Nyanshiski (Kenya), Eddy Kenzo (Uganda), Ommy Dimpoz (Tanzania), Ali Kiba (Tanzania) and Rayvanny (Tanzania).

Currently based in Chicago, US, The Ben has been topping local and regional RnB charts with hits like Am in love, Ndaje and Habibi.

While speaking to KT Press on Wednesday, The Ben called upon Rwandese to support Rwandan nominees to bring home the awards.

“It’s a great opportunity to our local entertainment industry to be recognized on such a big platform, with support from home, definitely we can bring the awards home,” The Ben said.

He also argued Rwandans to support him in all possible ways the nominees to bring the awards home.

Knowless Butera also is in a tough category of Best Female East Africa with the likes of Sheebah Karungi (Uganda), Vanees Mdee (Tanzania), Okothee (Kenya), Rema Namakura (Uganda) and Julian Kanyomozi(Uganda).

Rwanda’s young talented music choreographer and MTV award winner Sherry Silver who has worked with various superstars like Childish Gambino and Beyoncé is among the nominees of Afrimma awards 2019.

Sherry Silver is the same category of Best African Dancer with celebrated dancers like Kaffy Dance Queen(Nigeria), The Grove(Angola), La Petite Zota (Ivory Coast), Manuel Canza Laurenzo(Angola), Ghetto Triplet Kids(Uganda), Izzy Odigie(Nigeria), Bajuni(Tanzania), Rabbit Crew255(Tanzania) and The Team(Angola).

Crossing boundaries with music is the mantra that gave birth to AFRIMMA awards show and incorporating the music festival gives fans a chance to enjoy their favorite acts live on stage.

AFRIMMA 2018 took place on Oct 7, in Dallas and Nigerian artistes like Davido, Burna Boy, Yemi Alade and Wizkid were the big winners.

AFRIMMA is organized by diaspora communities in the United States and is aimed to promote African talents.
